Miles in honor of Kristin Nicole Thorsen
#runtobelieveknt
Held every Mother’s Day weekend, starting back on May 12 th , 2018, which should have been Kristin’s 31st birthday.
Every year since, we choose to honor the life of Kristin Nicole Thorsen, who lost her battle to
Postpartum Depression on June 2nd of 2017. In the past 3 years, we have raised over $13,700 and have had participants from across the world!
I met Kristin back in 2014 in Grenada on our honeymoon and from day 1, Kristin quickly became one of my most favorite people. I was a better person for having her in my life. After having similar struggles that I was so ashamed of, Kristin gave me the courage to open up about my own mental health issues and now, I want to honor Kristin and spread awareness the best way I know how – through running.
Kristin was a beloved wife, daughter, granddaughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She was an extraordinary mother; her daughter Kayden was the center of her world. She had an infectious personality and spirit that brightened every room. Kristin most recently worked in the social services industry; she was passionate about working who those individuals who needed help the most. She always put others first and her love, kindness, selflessness, and friendships were admired by all who knew her. She will forever be very much loved, cherished, and most of all, missed.
Maternal mental health issues, such as postpartum depression, is a real issue where 1.3 million mothers in the U.S. are affected each year. These miles will not only celebrate Kristin’s beautiful life but will also help spread awareness for women to find the help they need with ease. All proceeds will be donated in Kristin’s name to Every Mother Counts, a non-for-profit organization dedicated to maternal health before, during, and after birth.
Let us live life like Kristin would and believe you can achieve in all you do. So today and every day, we share Kristin’s story to help others in need because that is what Kristin would want. We share so that others will not suffer this pain. We share so that we continue to believe that Kristin is always with us and that her light will shine on forever.
These miles are for you, Kristin!
